Yeah, we all kind of know this.

Further it bothers me how modern and legacy online media outlets seem coverage controlled by continuously checking eyeball data as the decider what should be covered.

It's not like there is a plan to uncover or work a story, no, it's more like, what story has the best chance to go viral. I think this is why there is so much entertainment presented as news, which can work on several levels.
