This sounds like the up in the sky view from supply-side employer producers of goods and services. Some changes to the country are more systemic meaning old economic patterns may have changed fundamentally beyond all the opportunities afforded by classic supply and demand. It's possible our capitalist economic system is not such a good fit for the future. Past economic cycles might not repeat with the same results as in the past.
Whether people like it or not some in newer generations might not want to jump on whatever the good old days represent. Their hearts may not be in it..
