Reasons reasons reasons, in the end so many times in our world of consumption of anything including all forms of entertainment it's all about the revenues. In spite of Medium’s pledge to avoid all adverts. Admittedly now one aspect of the biz math smells like this to writers: claps-slaps=0.

A thought experiment might be to pretend every Medium story had a body length of only one word. Still, there has to be server-side logical data space associated with every story such as tags, indexing, clappage, among other attributes including other shared database files as some sort of overhead. Not making excuses for change but at some point, there exists some cost analysis that says ‘tweak me for a better outcome’ or however the online publishing industry (big ass blog aggregator here) sees itself as a viable biz. Just hope that all of this that is appreciated by subscribers is even close to a biz goal, cause many online biz’s out there, though different than delivering readings, have dubious future goals, a whole array of goals like getting sold, going public, more finance rounds in many gig-style-companies. Apples to oranges, yes but look at what some other gig-econ firms are doing, like Instacart and many companies that seem to see labor as a means to some automated end? Yes, that’s an editorial comment, there is an arc on a graph somewhere describing the lifetime of many of these businesses.

Again the deciders up in the Medium top house are hopefully thinking of delivering reading to the general public and somehow getting big enough to keep the blog machine going. There’s plenty of competition aka the public library, many of which are only a download away for reading a book among other enjoyable formats, not even to mention some other well-known tech giants doing their thing.

My wishful thinking? More audio implementations on Medium when it works.
