Nice reminder. Just as early hard disk data’s decoding is a challenge so too are many other hard and software formatting technologies that are already slipping into contemporary obscurity. Imagine if the human species decides to augment itself over time to become some form of AG-AI enhanced species say in a century or more, we too as a species could change our own de facto communications format on what is considered a normal daily basis.
Think about the results of upgrading the general human species, say in 200 years and we figure out local high-speed solar system transportation and we somehow detect a few odd satellites out in or beyond the ort cloud, something starting with what looks like the letter “V”. Question is: Will we still be able to decern our own instructions for decoding Voyager’s instructions for contacting E.T.’s?
Strange stuff has already happened to try to decrypt recent digital formats.
