It's hard for moderns to even imagine wtf was going in colonial times or way back in Roman Empire days, we simply weren't there, and though it helps to study history, which most Americans probably don't, reading and studying history is still not quite the substitute for being there back in those days. In short, most of us probably wouldn't last so many days before being history ourselves. Kind of like Native Americans on both the western continents, getting wiped out by European infections.
I certainly don't see myself in a previous life as some mongul riding around with horse and arrows helping the chief to assimilate various civilizations, or else. What a way to make a living, eh? Or back in Rome day to day, it's many times being compared to contemporary empires, ,,, , like ours, where our armies of many unemployed opt for the military to police for the empire and the locals back home probably without a clue wtf is going on overseas.
