The publishing business model of the last 25 years might be summed up as the infamous snake eats tail graphic.
Classic publishers->Internet->book exchanges->book exchanges + membership fees↑->online books->online novellas->novellas as book series->indie pubs->everybody pubs->subscriptions->rent-a-books. Everybody eats everybody in the end.
Well, that was dark.
It's a little bit like the online music war subscription history, (about now)->subscribe to Spotify (or equivalent) and individual musicians disappear into siloed SEOless garbage cans. And the musicians go dark.
Ah yes, the lovely cycle of life, (also in a rampant capitalist country)
