If Abbott runs against 2 others he will probably win with the same tired old mantra, a vote for them is a no job vote for you, blah blah blah. That is probably the depth of enthusiasm for Abbott’s next platform. All the other hot button issues ongoing are smaller group concerns compared to a jobs issue, IMO with Texas.

Basically the policy of the GOP in Texas is 'NO' unless we say 'YES". Basically no to any non-GOP'er.

The others, McConaughey & Beto O’Rourke:

My note of concern on McConaughey, who apparently sits on about 10 to 12 times the personal wealth of O’Rourke, if we believe net worth via Googling, is McConaughey has been in with some well heeled circles after his acting career took off.

But the concern really is history as a lesson. We have 2 others in the entertainment business placed in powerful positions, Reagan & Trump both of which IMO have burned the citizenry. Even though many GOP’ers have deified Mr. Reagan as some great communicator whilst they themselves run for office, or whatever narration citizens believe, he was still a b-movie entertainer that wobbled all over the place as a politician, as politicians learn to do. Now Trump to me was obviously worse. Point is: should citizens of Texas look into another ‘rich’ actor? Apparently until all comes out in the legal wash in the fullness of time, we will never really know Trump's net worth, besides that's a core part of a con man's game.

Yes O’Rourke has run for office and has government working experience, probably has now learned from past experience how to run a public campaign though no doubt if McConaughey were to run he could afford the slickest of consulting agencies, (AKA PR). Like so many elections national or statewide I think yet again this horse race will be all about image and personality, not so much smarts, it’s what the American electorate does, which is creepy in its own way.

I think pinning down policies for eventual office O’Rourke probably has the edge. I fear pinning down the McConaughey policy will be harder to do, kind of like a modern day redo of ‘the dance of the 7 veils’.
