I'd consider even a larger US city like Pittsburg, PA to be a kind of larger medium market newspaper and TV market. Sadly these remnants of practicing journalism, unfortunately, are completely controlled by what's left of the whole ad news model in these markets on down to smaller markets which are probably worse if they still exist. That news institution I'm talking about is totally controlled by advertisers enlisted in this dying market model. There's your editorship in a nutshell right there, advertisers. If any news involves advertisers, which can be lots of it, then the goal is to tiptoe around these stories.
Apparently the same is true with any of the sociological or economical community stories as you have reported like your story that was about 80% spiked due to editorial hocus pocus I guess. If and when story versions ever get to the local news outlets, then the stories are handled much more like the treatment of this comedy scene from the old Naked Gun movie clip here.
Yep, including much bigger national news feeds, local journalism in print, online, or video is pretty much a disappearing phenomenon.
