Dang, I’m more of a cat person plus I don’t even have a cat.
Liked the discuss in Roy’s late post regarding dressing up his little Medium bot on the dock, in the comment threads the main point, to me, made there was where did the revenue go with the clap-off change? Meaning someone commented there that those revenues were diverted elsewhere. This says to me Medium is not simply being greedy but is in trouble with costs somehow. Of course, we never get to see their financials like any other business, but somehow the Medium biz plan could be flatlining or pray not in a nosedive.
If they are in financial trouble, where are they going to go looking for cash? I think the writers already have a good idea. (Like when any school budget has a hole in itself, where do they go looking to fill it? hint: not from daddy war bucks)
If there is trouble in Medium land there’s a couple of choices, raise subscription rates, find bad but useable promo methods (translation- advertising- AHHHHHHH!), squeeze writers, meaning do more with less, where have we heard that before?
Medium might even try a two-tiered system like the proverbial Medium deluxe-pro or something, that somehow delivers more to subscribers, like audio stories or some other promo. Something that can add value, don’t know what that is, beyond my paygrade.
