We've seen wherein western democracies where personal WMD is much more highly controlled and regulated that daily murder rates are nowhere near the US rates. In fact, even the police might not be typically armed to the teeth except when some special swat team is requested.

There's no end to those driven as to who has the slickest WMD delivery system, it just gets worse and worse until we are all standing at the ready with rocket launchers in case we think our neighbors are acting up in some way.
